ENABLING POST COVID-19 WELLBEING
RECOVERY TOGETHER IN RISCA
The aim of the online event is to explore the challenges and opportunities to support and enhance wellbeing in the Risca area as communities adjust to the Post COVID era, or ‘new normal’ as it is sometimes called.
How can we work together collectively to meet those challenges working with and building on the existing and emerging activities and assets?
The community itself must be at the heart of this. Recovery is the rebuilding, restoring and rehabilitating the community following a pandemic or other major incident. Post pandemic recovery can be a complex and extended process involving many agencies and participants. The manner in which recovery processes are undertaken is critical to their success. Recovery is best achieved when the affected community is able to exercise a high degree of self-determination. [Recovering From Emergencies; UK Government 2010]
Background to the meeting
During the COVID lockdown, the activities of the community in Risca have been remarkable in supporting the wellbeing of people there, especially the more vulnerable sections. Undoubtedly, the Risca volunteers have been exemplary.
The activities of statutory bodies such as the local authority, e.g. the buddying scheme for shielding people, and health board and primary care services have also been vital. In addition, local businesses and third sector have contributed crucially too. This emphasises the role for everyone in collectively working together to support and enhance wellbeing in the area.
The purpose of Integrated Wellbeing Networks is to harness the strength of wellbeing activities and assets in an area, helping to bring them together to sustain and enhance wellbeing. Further to conversations with representatives of the Risca volunteers, we are delighted to help facilitate this meeting. It is very much intended to be a collective meeting between all involved which will hopefully provide a platform for all moving forward together.

MAPPING AND STRENGTHENING WELLBEING ASSETS IN RISCA
The map below is an indication of the assets that contribute positively to wellbeing in the Risca - the venues, the activities, and some of the services available (shown as dots). The map was produced by Caerphilly CBC in January 2019.
As part of wellbeing recovery in Risca, it would be great if venues, groups and individuals could indicate the services and activities they provide to create an assets map to help develop a strong wellbeing network.
A 'clean' map is available for download here which you can annotate and send back. The map below shows the wellbeing network map produced in Bargoed as an example.
